How does the industry promote film to audiences using, print media, Broadcast Media and E-Media?
The industry uses varies ways to promote a film, such as magazines covers, interviews and most importantly posters, which is very effective as for example this poster of super 8 uses a long shot and has more dark lighting (enigma codes) to show suspense to the audience. Furthermore the industry promotes films to audiences by broadcasting on TV, radio, DVD and many more. As there are trailers on the films that are broadcasted on TV’s and cinemas.
How are texts in the three platforms constructed?
Super 8 is promoted through print media as there are billboards and film posters based on super 8 and the release date of the film. Furthermore there is also merchandise that you can buy from the super 8 website. There are also reviews on the film.
There are many ways for Super 8 to promote itself in e-media such as YouTube, social network, iTunes and official websites etc. However a good example of social networking sites are Facebook and Twitter. The Iphone app on super 8 is a handy application available to all. To download for free and it is just exactly what a super 8 camera would look like. You can edit, cut and adjust what you can see through the camera. This handy application is targeted at young people as it gives a chance for them to fiddle about with their phone and application.
Super 8 is also promoted through broadcasting as there are interviews on the cast of the film. Furthermore there are also TV spots that show a short clip of the film and when it released out in the cinemas. Similarly there are also teaser trailers that are in the cinema that come out a couple of months before the film is released and theatrical trailers.
There are similarities of the way Super 8 is being promoted across the 3 platforms as the theatrical trailer, teaser trailer and TV spot are put on YouTube for people to watch. However it is shown from the internet rather than the cinema or TV. Some platforms such as E-media are better at reaching certain audiences targeted for the particular film as there are alot of teenage people and middle aged people who use the internet and as the film is targeted at families it is a great way of reaching out to them, promoting Super 8.
How do audiences access the text across the 3 platforms?
Super 8’s target audience is a family audience. We the audience know this as the children in the family use identification to identify and relate with the protagonist who is a little child who lost his mother. Print media usually reaches an older audience as for example, a billboard of the name Steven Spielberg will attract their attention as he has made many successful films before.
Broadcasting reaches out to many people, as loads of people watch TV. Ranging from little kids to adults. Therefore Super 8 TV trailers are viewed by many people.
E-media is also another example of promoting the film as there are interactive ways of the audience to interact with the film as for example the application on the I Phone is a camera which mimics the super 8 camera.
How are the representations constructed across the 3 platforms?
The characters in the film are represented in print media by many different ways as newspaper reviews, articles and many more. Furthermore characters are also represented in broadcast media as there are TV cast interviews on how it was like to work with the people who starred in the film.
