How is technology represented in the trailer?

How is technology represented in this trailer?

Technology in the trailer is represented in a positive way as it seems to be quite advanced with new features that have now been adapted to enhance viewing pleasure for its audiences.
New features include better resolution, high quality pictures and sounds, actor’s personal scenes on making the film and online extras which include bonus features which make the audience interact with the movie and is also user-friendly as it is shown to be quite easy to use.

The fact that HD DVDs and Blue ray disc DVDs have better resolution enhances picture quality as well as sound quality. This shows technology to be quite advanced as it is getting better.

Moreover the voiceover in the trailer says the phrase ‘crystal clear sound’ to emphasise how good technology has become. The word ‘crystal’ emphasises how clear cut everything know is with the up to date technology of HD DVDS and Blue ray DVDs.
Furthermore in the trailer it states the formats to be three times better than original formats which also suggest how technology is increasingly progressing. However unfortunately both types of DVD formats are not compatible with each other and neither will play on standards DVD players.

audiences do not understand media terms and for this media has to be then dumbed down so young
people can understand. With super 8 for people to understand media they use more websites to
engage to readers to make it easier and also by using activates instead of full on paragraphs of
writing.

With Super 8 websites activities are introduced instead of reading.

The Devil Inside

1) Media Forms:
What techniques does this trailer have to persuade the audience to watch this film?

They use flashing images to attract the viewers. Slow text appearing to engage the viewers into the trailer. They also use a script of two people talking to make it seem real. The flashing images are also not shown in order to create the viewer to want to know exactly what is happening and this increases the viewer’s desire to watch the movie. Furthermore the fact that in the beginning of the trailer it states that it was a real '911' call, placed from the home of Maria Rossi' brings realism which also persuades its audience to watch this film as they would beleive it is a true story and would want to know more about the film as the trailer has not given a full insight to what the film is about.

2) Media Representations:
How is Maria Rossi represented in this trailer?

Well she is represented right from the beginning as someone who is obsessed with a devil. She is shown in a few scenes as just a normal woman but as flashing images start to appear we see that she has a Devil in side of her. Moreover the fact that she is locked up is suggesting to us that she is not a normal person and is not safe around others and is seen as a liability.

3) Media Audiences:
Who are the target audience for this film?

The target audience of this film would be 16 and over, due the fact that the movie is a horror movie and not suitable for young children. Both genders are targeted at the film. The movie does not segregate genders.

4) Media Institutions:
How may this trailer raise criticism?

The way that this trailer may cause criticism is the fact that it should not be released on all channels, for example this trailer should only be released on channels where young children would not come across to as there are over rated scenes which may cause children to be distraught.

Technophobes?

Audience:
This programme would appeal to a BBC3 audience. Both genders from ages 14 to 40.
The gender of the audience can be told according to the people being followed for example 5 men being followed can appeal to an audience of men. However if we have both men and women take part of the show then a wider range of audience can be targeted.

Institution:
Following of their lives

Dramatic people
Dramatic lives of the people
Typically white working class.

Media forms:
On BBC 3 they tend to pick the people who are more dramatic or have really dramatic lives to make it more interesting for the audience to watch. This show will be more of a observational documentary as they will observe the 5 peoples life. The media forms which are involved are a voice over, there is no presenter so the people have to present this programme on their own and subjects which range from the ages of 16 to 34.

Representation
I think that its a negative representation as they are living in the 21st century and should adapt to living the same lifestyle. I think that this program will not be watched by many people as not everyone watches programs talking about technology. This is a negative aspect as not many people would review this.

How does the industry promote film to audiences using, print media, Broadcast Media and E-Media?

The industry uses varies ways to promote a film, such as magazines covers, interviews and most importantly posters, which is very effective as for example this poster of super 8 uses a long shot and has more dark lighting (enigma codes) to show suspense to the audience. Furthermore the industry promotes films to audiences by broadcasting on TV, radio, DVD and many more. As there are trailers on the films that are broadcasted on TV’s and cinemas.

How are texts in the three platforms constructed?

Super 8 is promoted through print media as there are billboards and film posters based on super 8 and the release date of the film. Furthermore there is also merchandise that you can buy from the super 8 website. There are also reviews on the film.

There are many ways for Super 8 to promote itself in e-media such as YouTube, social network, iTunes and official websites etc. However a good example of social networking sites are Facebook and Twitter. The Iphone app on super 8 is a handy application available to all. To download for free and it is just exactly what a super 8 camera would look like. You can edit, cut and adjust what you can see through the camera. This handy application is targeted at young people as it gives a chance for them to fiddle about with their phone and application.

Super 8 is also promoted through broadcasting as there are interviews on the cast of the film. Furthermore there are also TV spots that show a short clip of the film and when it released out in the cinemas. Similarly there are also teaser trailers that are in the cinema that come out a couple of months before the film is released and theatrical trailers.

There are similarities of the way Super 8 is being promoted across the 3 platforms as the theatrical trailer, teaser trailer and TV spot are put on YouTube for people to watch. However it is shown from the internet rather than the cinema or TV. Some platforms such as E-media are better at reaching certain audiences targeted for the particular film as there are alot of teenage people and middle aged people who use the internet and as the film is targeted at families it is a great way of reaching out to them, promoting Super 8.

How do audiences access the text across the 3 platforms?

Super 8’s target audience is a family audience. We the audience know this as the children in the family use identification to identify and relate with the protagonist who is a little child who lost his mother. Print media usually reaches an older audience as for example, a billboard of the name Steven Spielberg will attract their attention as he has made many successful films before.

Broadcasting reaches out to many people, as loads of people watch TV. Ranging from little kids to adults. Therefore Super 8 TV trailers are viewed by many people.

E-media is also another example of promoting the film as there are interactive ways of the audience to interact with the film as for example the application on the I Phone is a camera which mimics the super 8 camera.

How are the representations constructed across the 3 platforms?

The characters in the film are represented in print media by many different ways as newspaper reviews, articles and many more. Furthermore characters are also represented in broadcast media as there are TV cast interviews on how it was like to work with the people who starred in the film.

What institutional issues are raised in the case study?

The main institution connect to the promotion on super 8 is Paramount as they revealed the film to their social networking audience to reach a higher mainstream audience which reaches variety of audiences.
